Mentorship

mentorship

David Alan Harvey workshops are philosophical explorations into the heart of your work and motivation. They are about your own personal growth. A champion of authorship and voice he sees your personal obstacles and gives you a good shove to move yourself beyond them, then greets you with a high five on the other side.

“Making great work is all about energy. I take mentoring photographers seriously. Just as seriously as I take my own work. While I am a dreamer, I am also very fortunately blessed with being a results oriented person as well. The two do not often go hand in hand. So the end result of an in-person workshop or an online class of intense shooting – thinking – working – playing — will be an essay. The base of a pyramid from which you can grow.”

“David, thank you again for everything you and Alejandra do, for emerging photographers, without a doubt after the week in Venice my relationship with photography has changed…the sensations are different but the road is beautiful… who knows, maybe take a step back, find my own voice, and come back more confident and better. Un fuerte abrazo! Gracias :)”

“David has a unique talent for teaching. I have found myself inspired and encouraged by his brilliance, generosity, and courageous sincerity. He will challenge you to further build on your genuine and authentic strengths, which will help you tackle the complexities of life within your artistic and professional goals. He has been my mentor for several years and I have taken huge strides under his guidance, which is why I am grateful for David’s vital role in what will soon be my first photography book.”

“David claims that he will help you find your voice as a photographer. And he does so but without forcing your hand or putting words into your mouth. He does not try to create bad copies of himself but instead to reveal the artist in you. After a few days in the workshop I was already making pictures differently, more consistently. I knew what I was looking for in my pictures. I was not trying to do everything everywhere anymore but instead concentrated on a few situations, developing a consistent style in my pictures. A liberating restriction ... in my photographic life, there will always be a before and an after DAH workshop ... David, despite his amazing credentials, is the most approachable and modest person you will meet in the business and is such a pleasure to be around. Perhaps the best thing about David as a mentor is that he is very optimistic about Photography as an art and as a business and in a world of naysayers and sceptics, it is priceless for someone like me who is trying to make a mark.”
